11/03/2011 | RHI 2011 is here at last!

The long awaited details for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) have finally been released by DECC, although they are still to confirm the tariffs that will be paid to single households.

The details published yesterday (10/3/2011) are summarised as follows:

Single Households:

All new installations WILL qualify for RHI

From 1/7/2011 25,000 potential installations will be eligible for the 'RHI Premium Payment' of £950 towards the capital cost of qualifying installations.

RHI payments to start from Oct 2012

Existing qualifying installations will be eligible from 12/7/2009

Both product and installers must be MCS accredited

A key focus of this initial phase will be on people living off the gas grid, where fossil fuels like heating oil are both more expensive and have a higher carbon content

Tariff's to be confirmed later this year

Non domestic (including B & B's etc), industrial, commercial, Public Sector, not for profit organisations and community schemes (more than one property):

All new installations WILL qualify for RHI

Existing qualifying installations will be eligible from 12/7/2009

RHI payments to start from Oct 2012

All installations shall be heat metered

Existing fossil fuel appliances may be retained

Tariffs as follows:

Up to 200kWt tier 1; 7.6p per kW for 1st 1413 peak load hours (x nominal boiler output), then tier 2; 1.9p per remaining kWh

200kWt - 1000kWt tier 1; 4.7p per kW for 1st 1413 peak load hours (x nominal boiler output), then tier 2; 1.9p per remaining kWh

We understand that all tariffs shall be 'grandfathered', meaning that the higher tariffs introduced now will be applicable throughout the whole 20 year term

Full details are available to download from the DECC website.
