Stoves

Stoves at the Wood Heating Company are available in every shape and size, from traditional styles to contemporary free standing, inset or double sided stoves for both period and modern houses and conversions. Smoke control DEFRA approved models are also available for urban areas. Click on the buttons to the right of the page to go straight to the products or read on for a little more information on the different types....

Roomheaters:

Choose a model that suits your room in terms of style and size. Our FAQs section gives guidance on outputs & room sizes etc. Try not to be tempted to 'fill the gap' just because you have a large fireplace - if the stove has too high an output for your room it will become unbearably hot and the pleasure that a stove can bring to a room will be diminished somewhat if you have to run past it all the time! Smaller stoves working hard are a better bet than larger one's stewing away. The exception to this rule would be the Harmony & Stanford products (not classic range) which are very airtight and have great controllability.

As with everything in life, you only get what you pay for and this is every bit as true when it comes to stoves. If you find one at half the price of another of a similar output, then it's a fair bet you will only get half the stove - in terms of features, performance, controllabilty and particularly build quality.

Cook-top Stoves:

There's nothing quite like getting something for nothing and that's exactly what you get with these appliances - not only do they look really stylish and heat the space as you would expect but they can bake bread or do a casserole or keep your coffee pot warm too!

They look their best when free standing or in a very tall recess, so choose carefully - we usually have a selection on display in our showroom.

Inserts:

Stunning contemporary focal points can be created, particularly with the Hwam range of insert appliances - come and view the Hwam 30/65 on live display in our showroom!

We also have other examples from Nestor Martin, like the IN13 which is designed to fit into a standard 16 x 22" fire opening.

Boiler Stoves:

Boiler stoves are great for a little cottage where simplicity is the key - there's nothing like a tank full of hot water and a few radiators heating the other rooms.

Don't believe for a moment though, that you can run a big system off a stove and heat 10 or more radiators or link it up to your oil or gas boiler - in theory it's all possible but in practice you may, in our opinion and experience, be disappointed. There is also usually a lot of cost to installing 'wet' systems and this particularly applies to linked systems, if done in accordance with current best practice. The same applies to plumbing a boiler stove in to 'help out'.

Our expert opinion is to install a good quality dry stove - this will be far more efficient than a wet stove and will give you much more pleasure and satisfaction in the long run and you will be amazed how much gentle heat a room heater can deliver into your property if you open the (interior) house doors and let the heat circulate whilst running your stove continuously.

Remember too that no matter what size of appliance you choose, they are all designed to put most of their heat into the water which means that you tend not to get the direct benefit of heat into the room in which they are installed.

The exceptions to this rule however are those appliances with small 'clip-in' boilers which are designed to heat a hot water cylinder and maybe a towel rail or heat leak radiator only.

With relatively small fireboxes, you'll be stoking them like you were stood on the footplate of old Casey Jones' steam engine, the Canon Ball Express! Most manufacturers usually quote in their literature what the refuelling frequency is to achieve full continuous output - 3/4 of an hour to 1 1/2 hours is quite normal. Just think about the practicalities of that for a moment.

We'll happily give you expert advice on plumbing and installation etc but remember - if it's anything other than a small cottage, then buy a proper boiler instead!

Pellet Stoves:

With their contemporary, European styling, these appliances are the epitomy of convenience: Automatic ignition, thermostatic control and up to 70 hours between re-filling, we supply models from the Austrian manufacturer, Rika - the pioneers of pellet stoves over 20 years ago and with over 30,000 installations worldwide.

Smoke Exempt (DEFRA approved) Stoves:

We have a large selection of appliances which have been independently tested and are approved by DEFRA and are thus designated 'Exempted Appliances' by an act of Parliament called a Statutory Instrument. It is one of these stoves which you must install if you wish to burn any fuel other than an approved smokeless fuel in a smoke control zone - typically this means seasoned wood.

Convector Box Fires:

We are main distributors for the world famous inventors of the convector box, Jetmaster. Their concept is simple - and if you really must retain an open fire in the 21st century, then a Jetmaster will more than double it's efficiency to around 40% and allow you to reduce ventilation heat losses when not in use.

Great quality and a size to suit every home, including double sided models and a built-in indoor BBQ model too!

As main dealers for Euroheat, we offer all of their best-selling Harmony, Stanford, Nestor Martin, Hwam & Rika products. We also offer selected products from manufacturers such as Altech, Charnwood, Dunsley, Jetmaster and Woodwarm.
